Horse & Country TV (Sky Channel 280) is pleased to announce its nomination for Best Factual Channel in the forthcoming Broadcast Digital Awards. H&C TV lines up for the award alongside three blue chip rivals in BBC Four, Discovery Channeland History. Additionally, and for the fourth successive year, H&C TV has also been nominated for Best Specialist Channel, an award it last won in 2011.
Richard Burdett, Managing Director at H&C TV said “To be shortlisted alongside channels of this calibre is a great achievement for H&C TV. It shows that the current broadcast landscape offers real opportunities for tightly defined thematic channels that know how to really connect with a passionate niche audience such as ours.”
H&C TV’s entries for the two categories cited the Channel’s extensive Olympic coverage, broadcasting a daily review show throughout every day of the equestrian phase of the Games. With no access to either the stadium or footage, H&C TV built a temporary studio in the home of a passionate fan of the Channel who lives on the edge of Greenwich Park. At the end of each day’s competition guests, including competitors, team managers and legends of the sport were ferried from the stadium to record the programme live with H&C TV’s Jenny Rudall presenting. The cost per episode: under £3,000.
H&C TV also focused on the growing number of sponsored programming such as “Getting to Greenwich” and “Carl and Charlotte: Dressage Superstars”, as well as the Channel’s extensive online and social media platforms, with over 90,000 Facebook friends and more than 20,000 Twitter followers.
Commenting further Burdett said, “ These nominations are further evidence that we have built and proven our model in the domestic market. It’s the perfect springboard for our international roll-out which started with the launch of our Dutch channel last year, and will be further extended to additional markets before the end 2013.”
