Blaenavon business among 'most loved' in the UK

A Blaenavon business which has  been open for 10 months has been named the most loved speciality retailer in the UK,  according to the online guide to local businesses TheBestOf.

Artie Craftie, which opened its  doors in the town last June, took the top prize in the speciality category of the Local and Loved Awards 2015.

It also took the title of most Local and loved business in Torfaen, followed by Flowers by Stacey, Therapi Tylino, Coffi 1860 Ltd and Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club respectively.

Nick Horler who runs the art and craft shop and photography studio along  with his wife Wendy attended the awards ceremony in Birmingham and were very proud to have been recognised for their work in such a short time and to be able to represent Blaenavon

Nick said,  “It is an honour that so many people voted for us – we haven’t been here long but the people in Blaenavon have really embraced us as part of the community. It is a lovely feeling to know that you are “loved”  by people visiting the shop and the area.  We are also noticing a number of tourists coming to Blaenavon.

“The fact that three of the five businesses people voted for in Torfaen are based in Blaenavon shows that the town really has a lot to offer. We regularly have people travelling to the shop from across Wales and they are always impressed with Blaenavon and the strong community feeling that exists within the town.”

Kate Fitzgerald, senior economy and renewal officer for Blaenavon, said: “Blaenavon has a growing number of independent businesses that really add to the character of the town.

Artie Craftie are planning to expand into the adjoining property soon and they are currently in the process of a Public Consultation to take over the Post Office.

The expansion will give Artie Craftie more opportunity to display the many lines that they hold - from haberdashery and card making equipment to paint and stationary. Photography, a framing service and an investment in an A3 printer along with drop in sessions for crafters will potentially offer an exciting development for the business.
