Torfaen Women in Business Event

Torfaen’s third Women in Business event took place at the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran on Thursday 19 November.

Organised by Torfaen council’s Economy & Enterprise team, the event provided an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the contribution that women make to the business community.

Over 100 people from a diverse range of business sectors turned up to the event, which this year supported the British Heart Foundation.

There were fifteen trade stands showcasing a wide variety of businesses, from beauty to sport, and estate agents to charities.

Journalist and presenter Sarah Dickens was the key note speaker for the event, discussing how she became a renowned journalist and offering advice on how to be successful as a woman in a male-dominated industry.

Sarah Dickens commented on the night: “It’s really great to be here and I’ve had a great time already. It’s a fantastic atmosphere in here and it’s so great that there’s been such support. It is clear that there is a lot of energy in the room.”

The Chief Executive of Torfaen County Borough Council, Alison Ward welcomed everyone to the event and gave her top tips of how to survive and thrive as a woman in a leadership position.

Alison Ward said: “It was great to see such a fantastic turn-out at the Women in Business event.

“There were a diverse range of businesses which were interesting and inventive. It was good to see such entrepreneurial spirit in Torfaen’s businesswomen
