New activity space & children's play area opens at Big Pit National Coal Museum

Last week Big Pit launched its new Playlab activity space which will be used primarily for sessions with early years’ groups, community groups, and for school holiday events. A new Mini Miner’s Trail activity booklet for families was also launched at the same time.

Children from Busy Bees in Blaenavon cut the ribbon to open the Playlab, and enjoyed testing out the new soft play area. The launch was attended by representatives from Torfaen Language and Play and Bookstart, who helped develop the Mini Miner’s Trail. There was also an appearance from Big Pit’s Butty Bear!

Sharon Ford Learning, Participation and Interpretation Manager at Big Pit said “The PlayLab is a fantastic space which will beopen for special family learning events, and we hope community groups will come and adopt the space too. Plus it’s also a great place for children's birthday parties!”

The Mini Miner’s Trails can be picked up at Big Pit as is suitable for families. For further Birthday Party details, call 029 2057 3650.
