Volunteering on the Canal
There are many opportunities for volunteering on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal including
Waterworks is a Heritage Lottery funded project to restore a 1.5km (1 mile) stretch of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal, in Llantarnam, south Cwmbran using community volunteers. The project, which is being led by Torfaen County Borough Council and the Monmouthshire, Brecon & Abergavenny Canals Trust, will provide training in canal restoration and heritage skills to help sustain the canal in the future.
Torfaen Canal Volunteers
The group holds monthly activities in the Cwmbran area including removal of litter and fly tipping in the canal and cutting back vegetation.
Canals and Rivers Trust Wales
There are many opportunities for volunteering with the Trust including becoming involved in the Towpath Taskforce, becoming a volunteer lock keeper, helping wildlife, learning more about canal heritage or taking on more of an office-based role. Monmouthshire, Brecon and Abergavenny Canals Trust
Opportunities for volunteering with the Trust include cleaning up rubbish, organising events, undertaking administrative work, helping to run the Trip Boat or assisting in looking after our Information Centre in Newport.
