Welsh Government have announced a package of support worth £1.4bn for small businesses to help them during the coronavirus outbreak. The Business Rates Grant is being administered through local authorities and eligible businesses in Torfaen who have not yet applied are being urged to do so as soon as possible.
The two grants are :
Grant 1: a grant of £25,000 for retail, leisure and hospitality businesses (e.g. shops, restaurants, cafes, drinking establishments, cinemas, live music venues, hotels, guest and boarding premises and self-catering accommodation) occupying properties with a rateable value of between £12,001 and £51,000.
Grant 2: a £10,000 grant to all eligible for small business rates relief (SBRR) in Wales with a rateable value of £12,000 or less.
Torfaen businesses need to complete the Business Rates Grant (COVID-19) form to allow Torfaen council to collate all requests and to consider if it is appropriate to award the grant.
Applications received after 5pm on 30th June 2020 will not be considered.
In addition qualifying small charities within the retail, leisure and hospitality sector can also receive a £10,000 business support grant to help them respond to the financial challenges of Covid-19.
This new package will support properties with a rateable value of £12,000 or below.
• charity run shops
• sports premises
• community centres
Applications should also be made via Business Rates Grant (COVID-19) on or before 5pm 30th June 2020.
Important Information: You cannot apply for this grant if you have already been awarded Covid-19 grant(s) amounting to £10k or more from any of the following:
- Welsh Government Economic Resilience Fund (ERF)
- Sport Wales Emergency Relief Fund
