As part of the council’s commitment to creating a cleaner, greener Torfaen, I would like to invite you to join us for the second borough-wide spring clean this March.

Last year more than 250 volunteers took part in litter picks in Blaenavon, Cwmbran and Pontypool, collecting more than 300 bags of rubbish and clocking up more than 500 volunteer hours. They helped us to remove 62 tonnes of litter and fly tipping from our streets, parks and beauty spots.

To tackle the problem of litter and fly tipping head on, we are again directing additional resources to our front line street cleaning service to carry out a ‘deep clean’ of the borough, tackling streets, shopping areas, parks, road verges and other hard to reach areas from the top to the bottom of the borough.

But keeping the community clean is all of our responsibility, and only by working in partnership with the whole community can we really make a difference and address the blight of litter and fly tipping in Torfaen.

We will support as many people as possible, from community groups, schools, sports clubs, businesses, churches and local partners to join us and get involved with litter picks and clean ups in their area.

Alternatively we have arranged a number of events that you would be welcome to join. These will take place on the following dates:

Cwmbran Boating Lake. Friday 16 March from 12pm.

Pontypool Park. Friday 23 March from 12pm

Garn Lakes. Friday 6 April from 12pm

However, we don’t think we have all the ideas and all the solutions, so we would really like to hear from you.

If you would like to play your part, please register your details at and we will keep you posted with events and activities.
