ICO : Data protection and coronavirus – advice for organisations

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) recognises the unprecedented challenges businesses and organisations are facing during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and understands that organisations that use people’s data during the pandemic may need to share information quickly. The ICO has set out six data protection steps organisations  need to consider around Data protection and employee data during coronavirus:

These are :

  • Only collect and use what’s necessary
  • Keep it to a minimum
  • Be clear, open and honest with staff about their data
  • Treat people fairly
  • Keep people’s information secure
  • Staff must be able to exercise their information rights

More information  can be found at the ICO website

The ICO have also produced specific advice for health and social care organisations during the coronavirus pandemic.
